Upcoming interface changes - combat HUD

Based on a lengthy discussion today, soon during combat the following will happen:

    - Shield colouration around your ship will disappear during first person play, so it no longer interferes with the view
    - While you have an active combat target, your contracts, cargo, industry/starvation readouts will all vanish. These will be replaced by combat HUD elements.
    - One element will be a 3 dimensional radar of some kind
    - A second element will be a visual display of your ship's status - shields, armour, structure hits, energy, weapons, weapon charge status
    - A third element will be a visual display of your target's status - his shield, armour and structure hits
    - The on-target crosshairs will now carry visual data about the target's shields and structure hits
    - Each weapon will have its own crosshairs, in addition to the laser sights currently employed. These will visually display weapon charge, and the relative power of the weapon. This should make it a lot easier to aim different weapons.
    - Combat spam will vanish. I will kill off all the scrolling text of this or that being hit. This data will all be moved into one of the above elements. We may display little temporary tags in the 'my target' HUD element.

I am working with one of my favourite artistic-type people of all time on this, so expect an incredibly good looking resultu

Same, but interested to see how it turns out.

Hey I really like the combat radar. Any plans for getting that happening in normal flight?

Yes, the more I think about it, the more I think the radar is a must 100% of the time in space. It just looks cool. Everything will show up.

Edit: and it makes it easier to find stuff around you, e.g. the UNCA destroyer when you jump in. Now your jump-in point is slightly randomised, it could be in any direction and usually takes a moment for me to find it. If the radar was on all the time, much easier.
