Sparrow Redesign
Hi all,
Continuing the revamp of all the current ships (except for that last one, but...we'll skip over that) I'm currently redesigning the Sparrow.
The original had some great character, so I decided to do a couple of re-designs of the current ship, tomorrow I'll post a completely new design and see what people prefer. I hope to have this ship finished this week for implementation next.
Concept 1:

Concept 2:

Let me know if there's anything about either of these designs you like or don't like. I can take them in different directions, if I have enough time.
As I said, I will be putting up a completely new design tomorrow, so even saying these are no good is still fine feedback, though I'd like to know if there are any specific reasons why.
Thanks!

Re: Sparrow Redesign
Just want to say again, that unless/until Jam moves the range on mining beams, or at least where they start measuring from, the bridges on ships need to be up front.
As i was afraid, people that have the Seaph are saying that mining in it a pain because of where the bridge is. I will have mine in a day or so and will make more posts then.
On smaller ships views will be most important, but something to keep in mind, as you move forward.
I have mined in the seraph now, and it is not bad. Takes some getting used to how to position the roids so far away, but very doable.
So mostly guess the people not liking it for mining are talking the turn speed. Which is bad:P but the view is ok to mine in.

Re: Sparrow Redesign
It's not bad, it reminds me of a firefly class smuggler but with the cockpit in a reverse direction top to bottom instead of bottom to top. I kinda like both designs but am leaning a little more towards the first one, since it has those block sections at the top which sorta remind me of detachable cargo holds (20 ton containers) on each side.
Re: Sparrow Redesign
I like concept 2
Re: Sparrow Redesign
Hi all,
Seeing as people liked number 2, I went with that sort of idea once more and gave it a cleaner front. Here it is:

I also played around with more of a straight fighter look here:

And finally, I tried a couple with swept-forward wings. I wasn't able to finish them today, but if people like the direction, I'll keep going tomorrow. Here's design 5:

And 6, with some more storage space:

The rear end of the last three will have a door on the back, just wanted to get these on here at a (semi)reasonable time.
Let me know what you think, I'll be checking in fairly often.

Re: Sparrow Redesign
If you could fit 40k tons of storage space, I would fly that ship forever.

The top one is the best for future use. Has more forward facing gun mounts. This is ultimately a fighter and those four pods will be great mounts. Have we not learned our lesson from the Seraph on curved from mounts? Yea, the pacifist in the crowd is pointing out gun mounts.

Thanks for you replies, guys!
Prolapser: Which one do you want to fly forever? ;P
I've spoken to some friends and they've thought that designs 5 and 6 were showy enough to be adapted to a larger ship. So what do people think of me leaving the forward sweeping wings for replacing, say, the Skua?
I should also mention that I gave the first two concepts an actual cockpit, so the front now looks something like this:

Let me know, I'll be checking this forum often.
