Mayday... Mayday... Ship and crew now recovered

Postby Mooncrest » Mon Mar 06, 2017 2:33 pm

Spokesman for Mooncrest Industries wrote:Mooncrest Industries is requesting the aid of all Pilot Citizens in their efforts to find and rescue the crew of a Manta Class Starship which was lost whilst conductng trials of a new design of Hyperdrive. The ship was launched from our Starbase at MIB Tyngbraneth in the Miners Paradise system. Our Hyperspace Engineers estimate that, even with the new technology, the ship must be within a sphere of not more than 20ly in radius from that system. This is still a lot of space to cover. The following is a transcript of the last message received from the vessel:
“... To repeat, we have suffered a major malfunction of the new hyperdrive. The result is massive disruption to the navigational and propulsion systems. The Flight Crew are attempting to keep Life Support and Recycling systems going, but power generation has also been affected. The Astrogation Officer reports that, although she has no way of determining our current co-ordinates exactly, the local star is a Class G Main Sequence star; very similar to the Vulcan system's Star.
We have managed to establish a stable orbit around the eighth planet in the system and have found an Ancient colony site that appears to be of alien design. We are attempting to deploy a War ..”

At this point the comms unit aboard the ship must have failed as we have heard no more from the crew.

There will be a reward of an Archon equipped with Hyperdrive for the first Pilot Citizen to report with the name and location of the ship. There will be further rewards of a Seraph with Hyperdrive and a Guardian with Hyperdrive for the subquent two Pilot Citizens who report the correct name and location of the ship.

Reports MUST be made by PM to Mooncrest using the official forum message service. No other method will be rewarded.

The next post contains some tips on how to use the Galactic Map for those players who are unsure how the Galactic Map operates.

Actually it is the next post +1 since RAM jumped in before I could finish typing it. :D

Each sector is a 10 ly cube. If they are within 20 ly, that means they are within 2 sectors of MP.

Tips on use of the Galactic Map

Postby Mooncrest » Mon Mar 06, 2017 2:59 pm

All players should be famiiar with how to call up the Galactic Map. However you may not be aware of how it can be manipulated.w
When the map first appears there are two windows: The System Info window and the Map Command window. The System Info window can be dismissed by right-clicking with the mouse any where outside this window. The Map Command window can be moved out of the way by left-clicking on the title bar and dragging the window to the desired location.

You can zoom in and out of the Galactic Map using the mouse wheel or the +/- keys. The map can be rotated by left-clicking on the map and dragging the map.

Riight clicking on a star will centre the map on that star.

The System Info window give various details about the star in the system and the distance of that system from your current location. If you have a Hyperdrive fitted, it will also give you the amount of fuel required to Jump to that system.

Using these features it should be possible to find systems similar to that described in the storyline above and then a search of these likely systems should give up the exact location of the ship that is is distress.

Good Luck, guys.

We have received further information from JadeAisha regarding the location of our lost ship.

We just need the final piece of information before we can launch our recovery mission.

Just a reminder that there is still a Guardian with HD available for the next pilot to PM information regarding the name of the ship and its location to Mooncrest.

Any ship with a Hyperdrive can complete this mission.

So, even a relatively new player can succeed at this.
